A Married Couple Becomes Frightened About Their Abusive And Excessive Drinking And Speculates Whether They Display Any Alcohol Dependency Signs

Angie and Lenny have been married for four years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have some kids and so they with forethought developed a super vigorous social life.

The chief problem, it needs to be pointed out, is that almost everything they do socially somehow involves drinking. As an illustration, all of the sporting events, dinner engagements, family get-togethers, parties with friends, and happy hours they spend time at somehow include drinking.

If they were responsible drinkers this wouldn't be a major problem. Since they drink quite irresponsibly, however, they are beginning to become aware of some definite alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.

As an illustration, just six days ago Lenny received his first DUI and has been taking time off from work because of alcohol-related health issues. Not only this, but Lenny's last three performance evaluations at his place of employment have been less than laudable and he has started to forget what he does or says while he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been having sleep-related problems and his family is starting to exhibit some uneasiness about his drinking problems.

Not unlike Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling depressed about life and to cope with this, she has been drinking more repeatedly than any time in the past nine months. What is more, Angie has been getting quite a few painful headaches and having terrible hangovers after drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling substantially less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been getting some inconsiderate criticism from her coworkers, family members, relatives, and friends about her careless drinking.

One Tuesday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie without any planning at all discovered an attention-grabbing documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV documentary was a real surprise to Lenny and Angie because many of the alcohol facts that were discussed appeared as if they were indubitably related to more than a few of the drinking issues Angie and Lenny had been going through.

With thoughts of the TV program still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been manifesting could be a signal that they are alcohol dependent or maybe becoming alcoholic. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare professionals at the local substance abuse rehabilitation center to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking situation.

Paradoxically, even though their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was clear that Angie and Lenny were at the very least concentrating on their drinking problems, they were enthusiastic about finding out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in finding out how they could significantly decrease or eliminate the alcohol-related difficulties that had begun to escalate.

When Angie and Lenny went to bed that night, they determined that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse treatment clinic located just West of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to surmount the drinking difficulties that had cropped up in their lives, they actually had the most refreshing night's sleep they could recall in the last three years.
