A Young Lady Quits Drinking, Goes Through Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Makes Up Her Mind To Get Alcohol Rehab
Kayla is a thirty-nine-year-old paralegal who has been consuming alcohol in an excessive manner since her fiancee and she broke up. In truth, for the past five months she has been drinking just about a bottle of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking more than a few shots during the day. In short Kayla has been drinking so excessively and abusively that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to stop drinking.
After feeling dispirited because she was beginning to let her health go downhill, Kayla at long last told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to quit feeling sorry for herself, that it's time to stop the irresponsible and abusive drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the following Saturday morning at 8:30 AM, she came to a decision that she would quit drinking suddenly and completely without preparation or planning.
When she called her best friend and informed her that she had quit drinking and that after a few hours she suddenly started to have flu-like symptoms, Patricia, her best pal, told Kayla to call her doctor and explain in a clear manner what she was experiencing.
Her healthcare practitioner told her that she may be going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have someone take her to the emergency room as soon as possible. Evidently her doctor had phoned ahead and told the emergency room medical team to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by a paramedic and a nurse who promptly told her to sit down in the wheelchair they had with them.
A healthcare professional administered some medications to reduce the discomfort of her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some meds to help eliminate the alcohol that was still in her blood. After a few hours, Kayla was transferred from the emergency room and wheeled to the recovery room.
After she was in recovery for nearly an hour, Doctor Manning, a drug and alcohol abuse specialist, came to talk to her. He took his time and explained in plain words that Kayla had experienced alcohol withdrawals when she stopped drinking due to the fact that she had become dependent on alcohol.
He then mentioned the fact that with continuous and heavy drinking, the drinker's brain gradually becomes accustomed to the alcohol in order to execute tasks and operations in a "normal" fashion. When the drinker then all of a sudden stops consuming alcohol, however, the brain takes action by generating alcohol withdrawals. In addition, her medical practitioner also explained the different alcoholism symptoms that an alcoholic typically goes through as the disease gets worse over time.
Fortunately for Kayla, it was discovered that she was in the first stage of alcoholism and, consequently, she was given a favorable prognosis for a complete recovery if she will get the alcohol dependency rehab she requires.
Kayla told the doctor that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to regain her health. She also stated that she has a very comprehensive hospitalization plan that will quite possibly pay for most of the costs required for treatment. It was clear to see that Kayla was very happy with her optimistic prognosis and felt at peace knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol therapy she needs so that she can begin the road to recovery.
