A Young Woman Prevails Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Excessive Drinking, And Augments Her Self Worth
Emily was a forty-seven-year-old fashion designer who was fed up with feeling depressed on a daily basis and tired of her unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior. Stated simply, she missed her old enthusiasm for doing various things she enjoyed, she was tired of going through broken relationship after broken relationship due to her constant drinking, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was mad at herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a recurring basis.
Besides the observable alcohol-related health issues she was experiencing, possibly the worst part of her drinking regimen was the untrustworthy and conniving individual she had become. In her heart she knew that she had been dishonest about her drinking behavior to her family, friends and relatives and she also knew she had been dishonest with herself about the "beneficial" outcomes of drinking. What is more, she justified gulping two or three alcoholic beverages before going to social events and she also made excuses for needing one or two drinks the first thing in the morning so that she could manage the "anxiety" at her job. In brief, Emily got to the point in her life when she saw that she hit a low point in life and was now ready to start the gradual and slow path that leads to recovery.
One of the fundamental ways that Emily initiated her "plan" was by asking for a transfer at her place of employment. When her request was approved, she moved 550 miles away to a new location. If nothing else, this certainly made making new friends and buddies and separating herself from her old friends and buddies simpler. Then she contacted a healthcare practitioner in her new town and scheduled an appointment for a comprehensive physical exam.
After meeting with the physician and taking several laboratory tests, it became quite clear that Emily had made the transition from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and, as a result, really needed alcohol detox and alcohol therapy. At this time, her healthcare practitioner made it a point to underscore the diverse alcoholic symptoms and the common symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to spending a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the healthcare practitioner also told Emily that it was decided that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for her medical issue.
Due to her enthusiasm for following through with the rehab program, after eight weeks of inpatient rehabilitation, Emily was ready to start treatment on an outpatient basis. At this time in her life, she began working at her new job and over a period of several weeks began revitalizing her body by eating nutritious foods, working out, drinking distilled water, taking vitamins, and living an alcohol-free lifestyle.
After roughly ten weeks of outpatient rehab during which time she never experienced an alcohol relapse, Emily quit going to alcohol rehabilitation and instead began going four times per week to local AA meetings. Going to these meetings helped Emily maintain her alcohol-free style of life, they provided her with the support she sought after, and they served as a faithful reminder of the destructive results that are associated with unhealthy and abusive drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now enjoyable and loaded with possibilities that she could have never yearned for or brought to fruition while while she was troubled with abusive and careless drinking behavior.
