My first exposure to on-line publications was in school. Even though we always had the choice to buy textbooks in the store, many of the college instructors put their publications on-line as well. Doing that would save the pupils money and let them access the books from any PC in the campus. This meant that you never had to lug around your text-books - a major benefit after a semester of trudging through the snow.

At first, I wasn't very into publications online. I couldn't get into the experience, you see. It just did not feel correct to me. I like to be able to rest with a publication, holding it in my hands and flipping the pages. I could tell where things were located and remember the pages by their location. With the book online, you cannot do any of those things. It stresses your eyes, calls for you to sit up-right in the same pose for hour after hour, and is quite hard to flip your way through. I also like audio books on CD, though.

After a few years of online publication reading, however, I was a great deal more acclimated to the process, just like I had gotten acclimated to audio books. I had already started to buy books on-line for almost every purpose. I bought sports books on-line, text-books on-line - you think of it. Not only did the net let me buy printed books inexpensively, but it also allowed me to access many items that were out-of-print.

Reading publications on-line isn't truly that good for contemporary literature which you can buy in the store. You may as well either purchase it or borrow it from the library, or hear it, with books on cd. The awesome thing about publications on-line, however, is that you can often find quite old ones with very little trouble. Resources such as Project Gutenberg enable you to get into the great classics of prose from all places and times around the globe. As long as it is no longer copy protected, you can legally put the publication online.

Of course, the area where publications on-line have the maximum benefit of all is with audio publications. The awesome thing about audio books on-line is that it's so much more expedient than needing to borrow them from the library or turn to an audio publication shop. Instead, you can just download them to your PC and listen to them at your leisure. If you want to bring them with you, you can place them on an mp3 player or put them on compact disk. Audio books on-line make a lot of sense.
