Low Back Pain Is A Serious Problem Yet Can Be Improved Significantly With Simple Exercises
Did you know that one of the main reasons for workers needing to take a day off is lower backaches? Low back pain exercise is a way to help alleviate that ache. As a manager I've several staff members that sit at a desk for the main part of each day. Throughout the day they also have to move boxes of supplies that are over 25 pounds. I've noticed that this combination leads to lower backache reports from a few of my staff members. I've also experienced this pain when I'm helping out in the office. I started researching just how to get rid of back pain. I decided that I would offer incentives for my employees to participate in a low back pain fitness routine. These incentives are less expensive than paying missed days from work and insurance coverage for MD appointments.
I hired a yoga instructor to come into the office and show all my employees some simple low backache exercises that they can do at their desk areas. The teacher had simple charts that showed each low back aches exercise step by step. I had one of these charts blown up and posted it in the dining area. This helps as a reminder throughout the day to complete the simple stretching and repositioning that constitutes the majority of low backache exercise. The coach explained that the main reason workers were suffering from pain in their lower back was attributable to going from sitting in one position to lifting, without warming the muscles. By completing the simple warming techniques the muscles aren't strained and they will get rid of back pain. Also the stretching works different muscles than are made use of for sitting for a long time. The yoga instructor was agreeable to come to the office 2 days a week at noon to provide a low impact stretching class for people who wanted to participate. The class would take about twenty minutes. As incentive for participating I told my workers that those that participated in the low back pain exercise class could leave 20 minutes earlier or come in 20 minutes later on that day.
By doing this easy incentive for doing low backache exercise and
getting rid of back pain, I have significantly reduced the number of hours my employees are out sick. My workers are also reporting that since they're completing the low backache exercise program they have more get-up-and-go at the end of the work day. Several workers take part in the low back ache exercise sessions each week. Some even do the low backache exercise routine together on days when the instructor does not come in. It's a great feeling for me as a manager to know I've helped my employees feel better.
